Suspect in Pueblo West standoff identified

A standoff this morning in Pueblo West ended with a man going to jail. Nicholas Bouzos, 31, was arrested on menacing and assault charges as well as for the discharge of a firearm.

The incident began when a deputy spotted a woman walking in the middle of the road in the 500 block of McCulloch Boulevard at around 4:00 a.m. She told the deputy that Bouzos was a family member and that he had assaulted her and fired his gun inside the home.

The deputy radioed in for back-up and the Special Weapons and Assault Team (SWAT) was sent out. Dispatchers also made reverse 911 calls to neighbors on McCulloch and El Charro and asking them to say inside while they tried to gain control of the situation.

Charlene Graham of the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office says they took extra precautions because there was weapon in the home and they wanted to err on the side of caution

"Our biggest concern was the safety of everyone around," Graham said "When you've got bullets flying you're not sure where they're going to end up and we didn't want anyone to get hurt."

The standoff ended at around 10:00 a.m. No one was injured.
