A man is in jail for allegedly stealing copper wire and pipe from homes under construction including homes that were being rebuilt after the Waldo Canyon fire.
Police say 48-year-old Charles Butcher, burglarized seven homes that were under construction during a four day period including two homes located in the Mountain Shadows neighborhood.
At the beginning of this year, detectives from the Metal Theft Unit began investigating the theft of copper pipe, copper wire, and brass water flow regulators from new homes that were under construction.
Investigators found that the stolen copper and brass were reportedly being sold at local scrap yards by Butcher.
Detectives conducted a surveillance on Butcher and found him reportedly burglarizing two additional homes under construction in the Mountain Shadows burn area.
Officers followed Butcher and pulled him over during a traffic stop and arrested him.
Butcher faces several burglary charges.
