The new year will is shaping up to be a dry one in Colorado Springs as three of the city's four public swimming pools will be closing on Friday. The group Swim Colorado, Incorporated, which took over management of the pools during the 2010 budget crisis, told the city they can no longer afford to keep them open.
Parks administration manager Kim King says the city is exploring options to try and reopen the pools.
"We will definitely be looking at options whether that may be a partnership, a sponsorship or some arrangement," King said. "The city is looking more and more outside for how we can provide services to the community."'
Until that happens, the only public pool open in the city is at the Cottonwood Creek Recreation Center. The city hasn't budgeted any money to manage the other pools which include the Colorado Springs Recreation Center at Memorial Park, the Portal Pool and the Wilson Ranch Pool.
