A Peyton teen accused of murder faced a judge for the first time this afternoon. 18 year old Danny Fields, a father of two with one on the way, is accused of gunning down an 18 year old near Fountain and Chelton in Colorado Springs last Friday.
Newly obtained court documents show the city's 29th homicide this year, a record, was all over a marijuana deal gone bad.
According to the police arrest affidavit, Fields took his wife and a friend along with him to a marijuana deal he was making. One of his friends told police in the way to the deal Fields showed him a semi automatic handgun and told him "I've got my gun if anything goes wrong."
Witnesses say Fields and 20 year old Zachariah Garder met so Fields could sell Garder some marijuana. They say as Fields was weighing out the marijuana, Garder grabbed a bag of it and left Fields' car. Witnesses say Gardner then went back and grabbed a large grocery bag full of marijuana and ran.
According to police reports, Fields came out of his truck running after Garnder when he pulled out his gun and shot the 20 year old killing him.
Just a day later Fields was arrested after a search warrant was executed on his home in Peyton. The 18 year old is now facing 1st degree murder charges. He is currently being held without bond at the El Paso County jail.
