Temps soaring this afternoon!

Hottest weather of the year happening today!

TODAY: VERY hot today with high temps about 12-15 degrees above average! High this afternoon in Colorado Springs will be 97 degree away from tying the all-time record high. Pueblo today up to 104! The record high is 108! The good news is that we'll see increasing clouds as the day goes on which will help break up the intense afternoon sunshine. With those clouds will come another chance for a few thundershowers. 20% chance over the mountains as well as the Palmer Divide/Monument Hill area. 10-20% chance for Colorado Springs. Pueblo only about a 10% chance. Again today we could experience VERY strong damaging winds with any storms that do develop. More of eastern Colorado will be covered today by a RED FLAG WARNING for extreme fire danger. Northern El Paso, Teller, Fremont, Custer, Huerfano, Las Animas and Baca Counties and the San Luis Valley part of the warning today from 11 AM - 9 PM.
TONIGHT: Clearing skies and cooling temps. (Thankfully!) Lows will be mostly in the upper 50's and 60's at the lower elevations.
THURSDAY: Very hot again tomorrow with temps staying well hotter than average. There will be a slightly lower chance for any storms tomorrow compared to today. A weak cool front arrives by late in the day/evening! Fire danger expected to be extreme for all of eastern Colorado due to hot temps, low humidity and very gusty winds from the southwest!
FRIDAY: That front means that it won't be quite as oppressive temperature wise. Readings should be about 6-8 degrees cooler than Thursday. Chance of a stray storm or two is possible.
SATURDAY: Mostly dry and warming back up again. Lower 90's in the Springs and near 100 in Pueblo. Isolated storms are possible over the mountains and foothills.
SUNDAY: Hot and mostly dry weather continues. Breezy with only a 10% chance of a storm or two west of I-25.
JULY 4TH: Independence Day temps will be about 2-4 degrees below Sunday's hot temps. More available moisture means that our chances for thundershowers will go up. 20-30% chance in Teller County...20% for Colorado Springs. Still only about 10% for Pueblo.
TUESDAY: Temps will be even a few degrees ‘cooler' than Monday with an even better chance for afternoon storms. We hope the trend of wetter cooler weather continues!
