Terror Plot foiled in Canada

Canada has prevented an alleged terror plot.

It involve al-Qaeda and Iran, and police say Canadians would have died.

Two men have been arrested: Chiheb Esseghaier, 30, of Montreal and Raed Jaser, 35, of Toronto.

They were allegedly planning to derail a Via Rail passenger train with the help of al-Qaeda.

"The individuals were receiving support from al-Qaeda elements located in Iran," said James Malitz, of RCMP. "There is no information that these attacks were state sponsored."

Police say al-Qaeda provided direction and guidance.

The attack was allegedly planned for a specific Via Rail route in the greater Toronto area.

Via Rail authorities say they will consider stepping up security measures

The suspects are not Canadian, and it's not clear how long they have lived there.
