BLACK FOREST - It was supposed to be a two-sided debate last night among opposing candidates for three open seats on the Black Forest Fire District board of directors, until one side didn't show up.
P.J. Langmaid, Jayme McConnellogue, and Rick Nearhoof pulled out of the event in protest because they weren't comfortable with the town hall format and preferred more of a roundtable meet-and-greet format.
What was sure to be a lively give and take turned into a one-sided affair, to the disappointment of many in the crowd.
Incumbents Eddie Bracken, Preston Cooper and candidate Mark Fitzgerald said they'd agree to another debate with the opposition candidates if one is scheduled.
They also say they're hoping to move past the division that has plagued the district in recent months, no matter which way the votes go.
