The topic of the day: the heat!

Love it or hate it, the weather was the hot topic of discussion Monday in both the Springs and Pueblo. But this searing heat is a cause for concern for emergency responders.

The high heat and bone-dry humidity were the perfect recipe for any sort of fire to grow extremely quickly. Grasses, trees, and shrubs dry out very fast in this type of weather and can go up lightning quick.

Firefighters want to make sure everyone is cautious with their barbecues, camp fires, discarded cigarette butts, and even with lawnmowers, chain saws, or bottle rockets.

Another concern with the hot weather is the rapid snowmelt and runoff. In major river basins, like the Arkansas River in Fremont County, some waterways are running near or at bankfull.

Rescuers remind you to steer clear of swift-moving water.
