It's true, apples came early this year in Penrose because of the drought, but not every orchard was affected the same way.
Those at Apple Valley Orchards on K Street say they were early, but nowhere near as early as others.
They believe it's because the orchard sits lower than some others, so the weather didn't have as much of an effect.
They have plenty of apples, but not as many customers since everyone visited early.
"We've got a lot of apples still for 'you pick,' and then we do also have the cider mill," said Leland Jenkins, an apple farmer. "Everything that doesn't get picked will go through the cider mill, and we'll make into cider."
If you have a favorite orchard you like in Penrose or Canon City, those at Apple Valley Orchards say you should contact them to see if they still have apples left.
You may be surprised.
