BMW is recalling more than 42,000 3-series cars in the United States from model years 2002 and 2003, along with the M-3 coupe and M-3 convertible.
It's part of a world-wide recall of more than 200,000 BMW vehicles.
The front passenger seat airbags may not inflate correctly because of a problem with the propellant.
Toyota, Nissan, Honda and Mazda have also recalled vehicles with airbags from the same supplier.
