Three kids were injured when lightning struck Thursday in West Memphis, Arkansas, just across the Mississippi River from Memphis.
Memphis NBC affiliate WMC-TV says the kids, all male, were found beneath a tree when a woman heard the loud crash of nearby thunder and she went outside expecting to see that a tree had been struck. Police administered CPR while waiting for medical help to arrive.
The boys were not recognized by neighbors and were presumed to be walking through the neighborhood and sheltered beneath the tree during a thunderstorm.
While none of the kids died, this is a reminder during Lightning Safety Awareness Week that trees are one of the most dangerous places to hide from weather when lightning is involved.
