Tips from "Savvy Bloggers"

As unemployment rises and the American economy struggles to recover, many are turning to the World Wide Web to find new ways of making money on the side. This weekend hundreds of successful bloggers are taking part in the Savvy Blogging Summit at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort.

Erin Chase turned a family blog in to a web institution as the "$5 Dinner Mom". "I was wanting to share with people how they could spend less money at the grocery store." she explains, "Not so much with coupons, but what you do with the ingredients once you get them at the grocery store."

Since then she's been on countless TV shows and has written two cookbooks with a third in the works. Her advice for making a blog profitable is to pick something unique to you that you're passionate about. "We all have a story to share. To be able to share that on the internet, you can do that so easily and that's a great way to start a blog." she says.

It's an idea J.D. Roth has perfected. After racking up a large personal debt he began blogging about the experience of recovering from financial hardships. "Because I was deep in debt and I was struggling to make ends meet, I had to try to find ways to come up with ways to make more money." he says.

That turned in to Get Rich Slowly, now one of the most popular finance blogs around. Roth's advice is to focus in on one subject, and to know that it takes time to see dollar signs. "I've been very fortunate. I've been able to quit my day job and I blog full time. I'm a full time writer." he explains, "But for most people it's just hobby income, and that's great! I think it's fantastic to be able to do something you love, to write about something you love and make a little bit of money."

Both Chase and Roth say the most important thing is to just have fun. The most successful blogs come from the heart and will help endear you to your readers and potential advertisers as well.
