Tiredness could be more than lack of sleep

Are you feeling tired? Or sluggish? Or maybe you feel like you just don't have the energy you used to- then doctors say your hormones could be to blame.

"The brain just doesn't work as well. You lack motivation. You're not as sharp. Memory isn't as good as it used to be. Concentration goes," says Dr. Robert Motazedi with Colorado Laser Clinic.

Classic symptoms associated with a hormonal imbalance, most common in men and women 40 and older.

"They complain that they just don't feel like themselves anymore. They've reached their peak, the peak could have been 10, 20 years ago."

Other symptoms include tiredness, a problem sleeping, and for men especially-- a change in emotions. Dr.Motazedi says men tend to get a little moody.

A simple blood test will determine a hormone imbalance, treatment varies patient to patient.

"If we give them the hormones that are missing, it tells their body to start acting young again. And after a while, they do start to feel like they're younger."

Dr. Motazedi says the best way to get the hormones is through pellets.

"I implant pellets just under the skin and those pellets give you a nice sustained level that last up to 4 months."

Creams and gels are also offered- but it can be a hassle and inconsistent doses. Injections are another option, but Dr. Matazedi says hormones usually leave the body within days.
