Touring the Waldo Canyon Burn Area

Colorado Springs - Three area nonprofit organizations have come together for a unique fundraiser and to offer a small group of local residents an exclusive look into the Waldo Canyon burn area. In partnership with the Flying W Ranch, the Coalition for the Upper South Platte (CUSP), Mile High Youth Corps, and the Rocky Mountain Field Institute (RMFI) have come together to provide a Saturday morning field trip that brings together professionals in the field. Someone we all came to know and trust during the Waldo Canyon Fire, Jerri Marr, Forest Supervisor of the Pike and San Isabel National Forest and other experts will discuss the present status, future scenarios, and needed restoration efforts in the aftermath of the fire. They will guide you through a burn area noting the fire's effects and ecological impact. Others will demonstrate on-the-ground restoration efforts and their vital importance.

The Coalition for the Upper South Platte (CUSP), Rocky Mountain Field Institute (RMFI) and Mile High Youth Corps (MHYC) have all been involved with restoration efforts both after the Hayman Wildfire, Colorado's largest, and now in the Waldo Canyon Wildfire recovery effort. The general public will likely not be allowed unaccompanied into the burn area for many more months. Learn why and how you can start contributing now to mitigate the effects of the fire and help our forest and community recover.

Participants are asked to wear sturdy shoes or boots and dress for Colorado weather. This will be an outdoor event with no shelter. The event will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. on November 10th. Ticket cost is $30 and will benefit these organizations in their restoration efforts. Only 100 tickets will be sold for this event due to the fragile nature of the area. A signed release will be necessary to enter and participate; no one younger than 18 or without a signed release will be allowed to enter. To purchase your ticket go to:
