Toxic waste dumped in northern Colorado flood zones

LYONS, CO- Using the cover of a natural disaster to dump toxic waste. It's a huge public health threat in Boulder County.

The Boulder County Sheriff's Office says this happened in flood ravaged Lyons.

They say there are at least two incidents of illegal chemical dumping in the flood zone. A 30 gallon barrel of zinc cyanide and a 20 gallon barrel of copper cyanide were found dumped next to flood debris. The sheriff's office believes they were put there with the hope that no one would notice.

An Environmental Protection Agency criminal investigation is currently underway.
