Residents of a mobile home park in Colorado Springs are being ordered to do improvements or move out...and they say they're only being given 5 days to do the work.
Most people who live at Quail Hill Mobile Home Community are elderly, disabled, and living on Social Security. With a fixed income and little time to comply with demands, many are pouring cash into renovations and going without the basics to avoid eviction. "I don't get much on Social Security so if I'm buying paint like a lot of my neighbors having to pay for rock we don't eat... I'm thinking I'm about had," says Kay Linn, a widowed disabled senior citizen.
Management had no comment and the park owner, who lives in California, could not be reached for a statement.
Colorado law under the Mobile Home Park Act gives residents 30 days to comply with new rules-- not 5, as outlined in the eviction notices posted on doors at Quail Hill.
Residents question the legality of the situation and are seeking legal counsel for advice. They say the renovation demands exceed the standards tenants are required to uphold by lease agreement, but News 5 could not obtain a copy of a lease.
