The Mayor of Trinidad has resigned effective immediately.
Bernadette Baca Gonzalez informed the city manager and the city council Wednesday. She gave no reason for her decision, but recommended that the, "council consider the immediate selection of Joe Reorda (Mayor Elect), to serve the remaining weeks of my term of office."
In a letter released to News 5 addressed to City Manager Tom Acre and the Members of the Trinidad City Council, Gonzalez said, "far too many critical decisions affecting the future of this city are pending and require the immediate attention of a Mayor."
The council has not said how they will handle the vacancy. Stay with News 5 for updates.
