Trinidad player wins lawsuit against helmet maker

A former high school football player in Trinidad has won a lawsuit against the nation's largest helmet manufacturer.

In 2008, Rhett Ridolfi took a hard hit on the practice field and was left partially paralyzed.

On Saturday a jury in Las Animas County awarded Ridolfi's family $3 million in damages from Riddell.

The jury rejected claims Riddell's helmets are defective, but found the company failed to adequately warn players about potential concussions.

"Riddell had known for years and years and years about the problems with these helmets as far as concussions and they did not adequately warn the public," said Frank Azar, Ridolfi's Attorney.

Riddell, the NFL's official helmet maker, is facing another lawsuit filed by more than 4,000 ex-players.

The company says it plans to appeal the Colorado verdict and maintains they make the "most protective football headgear".
