(TRINIDAD, COLORADO) The golf team representing Trinidad State Junior College captured the NJCAA Region IX title at a tournament played at the Trinidad Municipal Golf Course. This is the 6th time in a row the Trojans have finished first in the region.
Teammates Joe Apache and Josh Woodworth both shot a four-under-par 68 on Friday to cap off the tournament. Over the course of two days Woodworth shot a two-under 142. Fellow Trojans Joe Apache and Jake Ice came in second and third, shooting 144 and 145, respectively.
The Trinidad Team ended up 7 under par for the Friday round. "Hopefully this is the beginning of a post-season peak that will carry into the national tournament," said Coach Rich Holden. "The pressure to "sixpeat" was starting to wear on this group a little, but they come through with a big time effort at home."
Eastern Wyoming Community College took second in the overall team standings, followed by McCook Community College and Lamar Community College.
Next up for the Trojan Golf Team is the National Championship in Lubbock, Texas May 12 through 17.
