Trinity prevails in battle of Tigers

Robert Kitzinger scored nine of his game-high 20 points during the final six minutes to lead Trinity University to a 63-48 victory over Colorado College on Saturday night at Reid Arena.

Trinity improved to 11-7 overall and took over sole possession of first place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with a 6-1 mark. CC is now 12-4 overall and 5-2 in league play.

TU led 48-35 with just under nine minutes remaining, but Colorado College stormed back on the strength of an 11-2 run to cut its deficit to four when sophomore forward Tyler Jonas dialed long distance with 5:33 remaining.

That, however, was as close as CC would get because TU answered with 13 of the final 15 points to secure the victory.

Ryan Milne paced Colorado College with 14 points and became the 14th player in program history to record 1,400 or more for his career. Milne also dished out five assists.

Sophomore guard Justin Berardino connected on three of six shots from behind the arc and finished with 13 points.

Junior forward Chris Lesnansky grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and climbed three spots on CC's all-time list to No. 20, with 446.

Zach Lambert posted 11 points, six rebounds and three assists for Trinity.

Colorado College won't need to wait long for a chance to avenge the setback. The Tigers visit TU next Saturday after beginning a two-game trek to Texas on Friday night at Southwestern University.
