Trooper dodges accident while cuffing suspected drunk driver

COLORADO SPRINGS - A trooper with the Colorado State Patrol narrowly avoided injury last night while arresting a suspected drunk driver in Security. The officer had stopped the first driver at around 8:48 p.m. on Main Street near Aztec Drive.

The trooper had just arrested that driver for suspected DUI and put them in the back of his squad car when a 69 year old woman crashed her Subaru into them.

The cuffed driver in the back of the patrol car was taken to Memorial Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The 69-year-old was ticketed for failing to yield to a stationary emergency vehicle and careless driving causing injury. No other injuries were reported.
