Tuskegee Airmen visit Academy

Seven surviving Tuskegee Airmen are at the US Air Force Academy today to accompany a World War Two era training plane dubbed "The Spirit of Tuskegee" as it makes its final stop on a nationwide tour.

The Boeing Stearman PT-13D is the same aircraft the veterans trained with prior to being called into combat in Europe. A documentary crew from the Smithsonian Institute will be conducting interviews with the men today at the Academy.

The Spirit of Tuskegee will be part of the permanent collection of the new National Museum of African American History and Culture on the National Mall in Washington D.C. which is expected to open in 2015.
