DENVER (AP) - State health officials say more than 200 people in Colorado have been hospitalized with the flu so far this year, and two young children's deaths have been linked to influenza.

Health officials said Friday that both children were under age 3 and died between mid-November and mid-December. One had underlying health conditions. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment said one lived in Denver, and the other lived in Jefferson County.

The health department says that statewide, 244 people from 22 counties have been hospitalized with the flu this season. By comparison, by Dec. 24 last year, the state had reported 32 people hospitalized with the flu.

State epidemiologist Lisa Miller recommends an annual flu vaccination for people older than 6 months.
