Two construction workers struck and killed in Highlands Ranch

DOUGLAS COUNTY - Two construction workers were struck and killed when the driver of a Subaru Tribeca lost control of his car and crashed through a construction zone. According to the Colorado State Patrol, the accident happened at 11:55 a.m. Tuesday at a construction zone along C-470 near the intersection with S. Broadway.

The driver of the Tribeca, 74-year old Thomas Garrity of Nebraska, was traveling west on C-470 when he attempted to exit onto Broadway. Garrity lost control control of the car, drove off the left side of the ramp and down an embankment and hit the two workers.

The car continued onto C-470 where it struck another vehicle, a 2007 Honda Pilot.

The construction workers, 47-year-old Joseph Schwartz of Morrison and 27-year-old Jesus Villalobos of Brighton, both died at scene.

A 72-year-old passenger in Garrity's car was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. The driver of the Pilot was uninjured.
