Two drivers killed in a head-on collision on Highway 50 about seven miles west of Canon City. The accident happened around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
According to Colorado State Patrol, a 2003 BMW sedan traveling westbound on Highway 50 drifted into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with a 2013 Dodge pickup that was traveling in the eastbound lane.
Investigators say the BMW turned clockwise and finally came to a stop halfway in the westbound lane. The pickup truck rolled over, landed in the eastbound lane and caught fire. The fire was fully engulfed and had to be extinguished by the Fire Department.
Both drivers died at the scene. Investigators are trying to locate the next of kin before they release the names of the drivers. Highway 50 is back open tonight. No details available at this time.
