COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Colorado Colorado Springs junior guard Abby Kirchoff averaged 18.5 points to earn the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week award. She led the Mountain Lion women's basketball team to a 2-0 record last weekend against Black Hills State and Chadron State.
Kirchoff recorded her second double-double of the season on Friday night against Black Hills State with 19 points and 10 rebounds. She had a game-high seven assists against the Yellow Jackets and shot 50 percent from the three-point line for the eighth time this season.
Kirchoff scored 18 points against Chadron State on Saturday night to extend her double-digit scoring streak to 23 games. She added another seven rebounds to tie for the team-high against the Eagles and went perfect from the free throw line for the eighth time this season.
This is the second weekly award from the conference office this season for Kirchoff, after a Defensive Player of the Week honor on Dec. 23. She is a five-time RMAC Player of the Week in her career and a three-time Offensive Player of the Week.
Kirchoff moved into third in UCCS records for points scored in a junior season with 385 and is 15 points away from moving into the top 10 for overall points in a season. She is fifth in program career records with 1,139 points and is on pace to break the single-season record for scoring average with 22.6 points per game. Kirchoff ranks in the top 10 of the conference statistics in six categories and is sixth in NCAA Division II in scoring.
Kirchoff and the rest of the Mountain Lions will be on the road this weekend in New Mexico. UCCS will begin with a 5:30 p.m., game Western New Mexico on Jan. 31, and finish with a 6 p.m., game at New Mexico Highlands on Feb. 1.
