With Crimea's referendum on breaking away from Ukraine now just two days away, the United States is warning of immediate and "very serious" consequences if Russia doesn't back out of the region.
Secretary of State John Kerry met his Russian counterpart, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in London Friday morning following earlier talks with British officials.
On Monday the European Union is expected to approve travel bans and freeze assets of Russian officials, the same sanctions President Obama announced earlier in the crisis.
"We're all hoping that we don't get pushed into a place where we have to do all those things," Secretary Kerry said.
