UPDATE: Arizona congresswoman shot, aide killed

WASHINGTON (AP) - Congressional officials say an aide to Rep. Gabrielle Giffords has died after an attack in Tucson, Arizona.

A hospital official there says the congresswoman herself is alive in surgery, but in critical condition after being shot in the head.

Congressional officials say as many as a dozen people were wounded in the attack as the three-term Democrat was meeting consituents outside a grocery store.

Giffords, who was shot outside a Tucson grocery store today, had just begun her third term. The 40-year-old Arizona Democrat was re-elected to a third term in November, edging a tea party favorite. Officials say the FBI and local law enforcement are investigating the attack. Reports also say that the shooter is in custody, but this has yet to be officially confirmed
