Update: Body found in Fountain Creek

Fountain Police and agents from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) are investigating after a body was found in Fountain Creek on Friday afternoon.

Just before 3:30 p.m. a person looking for a lost dog near the intersection of Bandley and Crest Drives found the body of an adult face down in around two-feet of water at the base of a steep embankment. Fountain Police arrived on scene and called for the CBI to assist in the investigation.

Deputy Chief Bill Elder said only part of the person's back is visible above the water, he estimated the body might have been in the creek for weeks because of the condition it appears to be in and ice and snow on the body. Aside from that he said nothing, including signs of foul play, were apparent.

"We haven't approached the body until we can get the scene processed," Elder explained. "The body is in a spot that's far enough away that we can't tell anything about it at all, we can't tell male or female."

The El Paso County Coroner's Office will conduct an autopsy in the coming days to determine a cause of death and identify the person.

Deputy Chief Elder said officer found evidence of a transient camp under a nearby bridge, but they haven't determined if the camp has any connection to the body.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime-Stoppers or Fountain Police at 719.382.8555.
