The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred this morning in rural El Paso County.
At approximately 5:15 this morning, a 1996 Brown Ford Bronco was traveling westbound on Judge Orr Road. At that time, a 2012 red Nissan Titan was traveling northbound on Log Road. The Titan failed to stop at a stop sign and collided its front with the driver's door of the Bronco. The Titan spun around and came to rest on the northwest corner of the intersection. The Bronco traveled northwest, through a stop sign, a utility box, and a fence, and then came to rest in a field northwest of the intersection.
Charles George, 65, was driving the Titan and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Bronco was driven by Wesley Blanchard, 35, and his passenger Melissa Blanchard, 37, both from Calhan, were transported to Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Mr. George was not wearing his seat belt in the crash. Both occupants of the Bronco were wearing their seat belts in the crash. The State Patrol believes the cause of the crash is disregarding a stop sign, and we are looking into whether or not a medical condition played a role in this instance. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected.
