Many residents evacuated by the Bluebell Fire in Evergreen were told Monday evening they can return home, but others will not be allowed to go home just yet.
The fire sparked on private property southwest of downtown Evergreen Monday afternoon and gradually grew to about 5 acres.
Gusty winds and volatile fuels prompted the mandatory evacuations of nearly 10,000 residents in western Jefferson and eastern Clear Creek Counties in the Evergreen area. Hundreds of evacuees went to the evacuation shelter at Conifer High School.
Most were told Monday evening they can return home as the fire's acreage was updated to 25-35 acres. Many evacuees said they didn't mind being forced from their homes, calling it a good "practice run" should a larger fire spark nearby in the future.
