Scott Blackmun, the CEO of the United States Olympic Committee headquartered in Colorado Springs says America's athletes are safe from the smoke caused by the Waldo Canyon Fire burning in the foothills west of town.
Many of Team USA's swimmers, gymnasts and track and field competitors are out of state participating in final qualifiers before heading to London. Members of the USA Wrestling and Shooting teams are able to train in indoor facilities.
However, Blackmun says as many as 40 of the USOC' 200 employees have been evacuated and at least 3 may have lost homes. Some of the evacuated employees are staying at the Olympic Training Center and as many as 5 employees and their pets are staying at his house.
