Some fourth graders at Pioneer Elementary in Academy District 20 have walked half-way around the world. They're participating the Global Childrens Challenge wearing by pedometers every day for 50 days straight and keeping a log of their steps.

Their daily class average of nearly 24,000 steps a day is currently the best in the United States and among top 20 classes worldwide.

They go online each day and learn about new places those virtual steps have taken them. On Wednesday they visited Russia. Teacher Jacob Bell he's noticed how much more focused his students are since the project began September 15.
