Warm end to the week, colder end to the weekend

WEATHER DISCUSSION: High pressure centered over Utah and western Colorado has made for a stellar end to our week with bright, warm sunshine. Air within that high pressure is very stable, so when some of that air was pushed through the Rockies it moved up and down through the passes as a wave, which generated a small batch of wave clouds along the southern Front Range. Those clouds helped to warm temperatures in the pre-dawn hours of Friday, but once the clouds dissipated temperatures dropped off again until sunrise. That high pressure will make some northeastward progress this weekend and help to push some cold air toward us late Sunday and Monday. The cold front at the leading edge of that cold air in motion will help to generate more cloudiness beginning Sunday afternoon and lingering into Monday morning. Sun returns for Monday and will help warm temperatures substantially Tuesday and Wednesday. The deep-layer wind flow becomes more southwest to northwest in advance of a developing West Coast low pressure trough Thursday and Friday. Clouds will be on the increase on Thursday, especially in the High Country. Some snow could fall in the mountains on Friday, but along the Front Range and in the Plains things appear to stay quiet other than a noticeable increase in clouds and colder temperatures.
