Icy Conditions in Colorado Springs

The weather has been a major issue for drivers, as well as pedestrians, Saturday morning.  The Bijou Bridge at I-25 was closed for about an hour due to icy conditions.  Areas all over Southern Colorado have been affected by icy road conditions and very slick sidewalks. 

Southbound I-25 was closed this morning at Nevada in Colorado Springs, because of a more than 60 car accident cause by black ice on the roads. The crash and debris have been removed from the bridge and CDOT has placed de-icer on the bridge.

There were other multiple-car accidents around the Colorado Springs area.  Because of all these accidents, Colorado Springs has been on accident alert since early this morning.  For more information about cold reporting you can click here.

There has also been lots of reports of people falling while walking on the sidewalks.  One report said that the victim had a possible broken hip.  So be extremely cautious while walking, sidewalks have been reported as being very slick.

Pueblo also has been hit by icy conditions.  There has been several accidents reported due to the slick conditions. Drivers are asked to drive carefully, lots of areas of black ice are being reported.

The National Weather Service in Pueblo has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for freezing drizzle and spotty light snow which is in effect until noon today. The effected areas include Woodland Park, Black Forest, Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Walsenburg, Trinidad, Ordway, Olney Springs, La Junta, Rocky Ford, Branson, Kim, Las Animas, Lamar, and Springfield.
