Westminster school bus driver admits to driving drunk

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (AP) - A school bus driver from Adams County has admitted he was drunk when he drove a busload of football players home from a game.

Burton Carpenter pleaded guilty Monday to one count of DUI and one count of knowing or reckless child abuse.

Carpenter was transporting members of the Mountain Range High School freshman football team from a game at Prairie View High School in Brighton on Sept. 21 when his bus hit a parked vehicle as he was entering the parking lot at Mountain Range. No injuries were reported.

KMGH-TV reported Tuesday that police said a breath-test showed Carpenter's blood-alcohol at three times the legal limit.

Sentencing is set for Friday in Adams County Court.
