When CDOT decides to close the roads

When weather conditions get too bad to drive, CDOT makes the decision to close the roads.

That's what happened yesterday on many roads, including I-25 between Pueblo and Fountain.

Some of you asked us on Facebook why the road didn't close sooner, saying it was extremely dangerous.

Those with CDOT tell us, in that case, conditions got bad quickly, and too many people were already out traveling the road.

"It turned into a situation where so many cars were traveling the roadway that once the accidents occurred that required everything to be shut down," said Bob Wilson, CDOT Spokesman.

They also have to check the roads first to make sure anyone stranded is okay and taken to a safe place before they can close the road.

Always stay tuned to KOAA for the latest road closures.
