The Denver-area transit district says it has suspended one of its bus drivers for allegedly going the wrong way in an express lane on a downtown freeway.

The Regional Transportation District says no passengers were on the bus. No collisions were reported. The driver's name hasn't been released.

RTD says the driver had to get around gates and ignore signs to go north in the Interstate 25 high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday when the lane was set up to handle only southbound traffic. Another RTD driver going the correct direction saw the wrong-way bus and notified dispatchers, who contacted the driver and ordered him to pull over.

The express lane is open to inbound traffic for the morning commute and outbound traffic in the evening.
