Your Healthy Family: Local Woman Loses 180 Pounds

Looking for some motivation to keep your new year's resolution?
A local woman lost 180 pounds, 80 in the last year alone.
"I was tired of being tired all the time, I was tired of being sad all the time," said Nicolette DiMaggio.
Six years ago DiMaggio decided to make a change.
The heaviest she has recorded of her weight was 347 pounds.
"Every time I step into a pair of clothes and I actually enjoy what I see, it's different than what I've had before, because I've never had that before," she said.
She says when she first started she had to make small changes, and it was too much for her to exercise.
"My diet was so horrible that my littlest change was I was going to eat a salad a week," she said.
So she took the slow approach, and it worked. It took her five years to lose the first 100 pounds. Then the past year she lost another 80 with help from the Metabolic Research Center in Colorado Springs.
"When you think portion control, in a large person's eyes you're thinking the smaller the better. Metabolic teaches you, you get to eat a lot of food, but it has to be the right food," she said.
They also helped her with what's called emotional eating, too much of the wrong thing when stress levels go up.
Now she can fit her whole body in just one leg of her former "skinny jeans"
"I've never enjoyed shopping until now," she said. "I ran a mile yesterday, that's huge."
And Nicolette wants others to know - they too can make a change.
"You're never too far gone, I was at 347 pounds at age 24 years old, I thought I was gone," she said.
"I had to believe in myself that I could do it, no one else is going to do it for you," she added.
