Your Healthy Family: Teaching kids about strangers

Do you wonder what to tell your kids to do if a stranger approaches them?
Isaac Costley is the chief instructor at Calvary Family Martial Arts and Fitness.
They teach kids how to gain and maintain space so a predator doesn't get close.
They learn to take steps back, running in the opposite direction that the car is facing, and yelling fire.
He says the common lures predators use are puppies, money, food or anything that might tug at a child's heart.
"What we do is try to take that out of it and say look no matter what the person says, you maintain or gain your space, I don't care what they have to say, so they can't lure them because the child never gets close enough to be lured," said Costley.
"We have had actual circumstances even here in Colorado Springs where kids have been approached and kids have remembered to take their steps back and to run and yell: Fire! Fire!" he said.
He says just telling a child not to go with a stranger is too broad of a statement.
They're offering a free class on July 19th at 10am.
You just have to call and RSVP 719-237-0043
