Your Healthy Family: Volunteering

It is "National Volunteer Week" and we spoke to volunteers at Children's Hospital Colorado who say they actually get more benefits then they give.

At just 18 months old little Wesley has spent a lot of time at Children's Hospital Colorado.
He was born premature at 28 weeks and spent two months in the NICU.
"There's been definitely a world wind of emotions and quite a few tears shed here," said his mom, Naomi Ross.
She says the volunteers have done their best to make them feel at home - bringing toys, activities and reading to Wesley.
"We've fortunately been able to take advantage of them all three stays," she said.
Karen Brennan has been volunteering since July.
"I have the opportunity to interact with children who are in difficult places you know in their life being ill," Brennan said.
She says it's been good for her working one on one with kids and the parents appreciate the break.
"I get back so much more than I give," she added.
Brennan's children were premature and now she's training to be a "cuddler" in the NICU.
"This is my first opportunity since raising them, they're all now adults, that I can give back in that way," said Brennan.
For today, it's Wesley getting her attention.
"We're lucky to have him, they've saved us more than once," said Naomi Ross.
