Youth to be taught outdoor skills

The Colorado Division of Wildlife will host a youth skills day at the Ramah State Wildlife Area northeast of Colorado Springs on September 25.

Youngsters interested in fishing, archery and shotgun shooting are invited come out to the free one-day event anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. "This is a great opportunity for youngsters to learn about shooting sports and try their hand at using a bow and learning about firearms safety," said Steve Lucero, an education coordinator with the DOW.

Instructors will help youngsters learn the finer points of using fishing gear, and shooting shotguns and bows. Activities include how-to tips for spin and fly casting, a shotgun target shoot, and a 3-D archery shoot.

The DOW will furnish the equipment.

The Ramah Archery Range is located four miles west of Ramah at the Ramah State Wildlife Area along U.S. Highway 24 in northeastern El Paso County.

All ages are welcome. Boys and girls under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Activities will run continuously throughout the event.

For more information about the events at Ramah, call 719-227-5200.
