Two sexually violent predators will soon move to Walsenburg.

A train derailed in Southern Colorado. It happened just after six this morning about five miles north of Walsenberg. Huerfano County Sheriff's Deputies say no one was hurt. That train was carrying wind turbines.

CenturyLink reports that much of wireless service in Trinidad, Walsenburg and the San Luis Valley is out due to an inadvertent cable cut. This affects wireless, Internet and long distance service.

Two men have been arrested in the sexual assault and kidnapping of a student in Walsenburg.
The student was assaulted and taken Tuesday afternoon from Peakview Elementary and taken to a nearby football field.

What started as a routine traffic stop for speeding became a major drug bust for police officers in Walsenburg. Officer Buddy Townes, Corporal John Salazar and K9 officer Atos stopped the car late Friday night. In the process they discovered hydrocodone pills, marijuana, ecstasy, mushrooms and two guns.

Walsenburg police are investigating the shooting of a 19 year old man. The victim was taken to the Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center Tuesday by a personal vehicle. Officers believe the shooting may have occurred within city limits.

Black Hills Energy and San Isabel Electric are reporting widespread power outages from Pueblo to Walsenburg. Thousands of homes are without power. Right now there's no estimate for when the power will be restored.

A juvenile leads law enforcement on a chase across three counties and it ends with an officer-involved shooting. The pursuit started early this morning in Alamosa. Sheriff deputies and state troopers followed the suspect east on highway 160 through Alamosa, Costilla and Huerfano Counties before he was finally caught.

Fire crews are battling a brush fire in Huerfano county right now. More than 200 acres have already been scorched 20 miles east of Walsenburg. Fire crews from Pueblo County are on the way to help.

The Huerfano County Courthouse is still closed after chunks of rock starting falling off the courthouse tower earlier this week.
Those scheduled to be in court Monday March 14 must appear on Monday at the Walsenburg City Hall in the City Council Chambers.

The Department of Veterans Affairs is awarding a grant worth nearly $2.3 million for improvements at the Veteran's home in Walsenburg.
