$114,000 Severance for Chief

News Articles

Posted 9:50 PM 10/10/2011 : CSPD Chief to receive over $114,000 in severance

Tonight we're learning more about the severance package the city is giving to Colorado Springs Police Chief Richard Myers. The news comes after Myers announced last week he's retiring.

Myers retirement comes during a tumultuous year for the police force, in which 2 officers were arrested and the vice narcotics unit is under investigation by the mayor's office. The Chief's Office has also been asked to reduce around five million dollars from its budget. Myers has been the police chief for nearly 5 years.

Here's a breakdown of his severance package provided to us by the mayor's office. In all, the chief will get about $114,000. 6 months of that is from base pay at just over $77,000. He'll also get medical and dental benefits for 6 months which amounts to around $6,000. He'll also receive over $16,000 in vacation and over $14,000 in sick time payout..

We questioned why he was seemingly getting so much. We spoke to several city council members, and they tell News 5 that although there's a lot of money involved in the severance, it's no more or no less than anyone else in the position would have received. The Chief is expected to leave the force in November.
