Mary Saiz of Pueblo South High School is this week's Loaf ‘N Jug Aquafina Athlete of the Week.
The senior swimmer just went four-for-four at the 4A State Swimming Championships over the weekend. Mary won her fourth straight 100-yard backstroke.
She has five state titles altogether and is easily the most decorated Pueblo girls high school swimmer of all time.
In the 5A competition, Olympic Gold Medalist Missy Franklin took first place. I got a chance to ask Mary, who would win if the two got to compete against one another?
"I don't know about now, but when I was eleven, I was at a summer club meet," said Mary. "And I beat her by just a little bit."
They will get to have a rematch in college. Mary will swim at the University of Utah next year. Missy is at Pac-12 rival Cal.
Also, Mary hopes to compete at the future Olympic Trials.
