Monument Creek Pipes

News Articles

Posted 5:39 PM 3/7/2012 : Why are pipes in Monument Creek?

There is curiosity over large pipes stretching nearly three quarters of a mile along Monument Creek through the center of Colorado Springs. They showed up about a week ago snaking downstream for 36-hundred feet and crossing the creek three times.

It is a temporary line for sewage diverted from a much bigger sewage line underground. Instead of digging it up, crews are renewing it by inserting a fiberglass liner. "What they do is they insert it in the line with compressed air," said Colorado Springs Utilities Project Manger, Richard Dressel, "Once the tube gets into place then they put steam on it at about 170 to 180-degrees Fahrenheit to cure it out."

The work will take about a week. Then those eye-catching temporary pipes will go away.
