The Rockies go local in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player draft, as a dream has come true for Ryan Warner of Colorado Springs.
The former Pine Creek High School pitcher was picked by the Rockies on day two of the draft Tuesday.
The Rockies selected Ryan with the 128th overall pick in the supplemental round between the third and fourth rounds. He actually turned down the Phillies at 125 and the Marlins at 127, saying he wanted to play for his favorite organization.
The right-handed Warner stands 6'7" and was named this season's Gatorade Colorado High School Player of the Year. He was even KOAA's Athlete of the Week a couple months ago.
But Tuesday's news is the biggest honor for the 18-year old, who spoke to Andy Koen.
"I'm just blessed, you know?" said Ryan. "It's a dream come true. I can't ask for anything more and it's a fun ride."
Warner worked out for the Rockies last Tuesday, who say his fastball was clocked between 89 and 91 miles an hour.
He had previously committed to play in college at North Carolina State next season, but he's now bypassing N.C. State to turn pro.
He is the first Colorado high school player taken in this draft.
